Chicken can be a juicy and delicious BBQ treat when done right. However, it is all too easy to get chicken wrong and make it dry and tasteless. Here are some great tips for barbecuing chicken to perfection.
Keep it Simple
Simple is best when you are just starting out and after washing the raw chicken thoroughly and patting it dry you just need a little seasoning as the chicken will already be full of flavor. All you really need is to rub the chicken with olive oil and sprinkle with a little salt and pepper. Save the fancy seasonings for later when you have your barbecuing skills down.
Searing the Chicken
Your chicken needs to be turned every two to three minutes when it is first placed on the barbecue to sear the skin. This will help to lock in the juices and create a delicious crispy coating that will keep you guests coming back for more.
Basting
Time the chicken carefully so that you know exactly when it should be ready to serve. Start basting the chicken ten minutes before it is ready with the sauce of your choice. If you add the sauce at the start it will become black and burned and the flavor of the sauce and your chicken will be ruined.
Smaller is Easier
If you are intimidated by the idea of grilling a whole chicken at first, cut the chicken into pieces and barbecue them individually. You could go for different sections of the chicken such as the drumsticks and breast and cook the individually. Alternatively, cut the chicken breast into slices, wrap them in tin foil and place them on the grill to cook them quickly and evenly.
Choosing the size
Not all chickens are equal and some are bigger than others.
